The Geologist

You are trained as a Geologist.   A geologist studies of the physical properties and processes of the Earth. You are specially trained in Hydrogeology.  You have spent years mapping the underground Permian Sea and would like to see this reservoir put to good use… not to mention the ongoing research studies that could be developed as a result of this industry.

You support a desalination plant that will not-only provide sustainable drinking water for the local communities, but enough water to maintain the area for a very long time.  A reverse-osmosis plant already exists in the community, so another desalinization enterprise may not be economically supported.  Yet, you argue that the multi-flash distillation technique might provide a more quantifiable distillate and that could be used in a second business enterprise (yet small) like that of Gourmet Sea Salt and Sea Salt & Spa Products

Your biggest challenge will be to convince the Permian Sea Committee of your decision.

Use the links below for your research.  It is important that you read the information contained at each site with YOUR individual role and task in mind.

Using the IBC format (Introduction, Body, and Conclusion), write a one-page persuasive paper that summarizes your opinion and that includes the following:

·         Description of a geologist and your area of specialty.

·         Geographic description and location of the Permian Sea

·         Description of brackish waters

·         Your persuasive comments on the overall business opportunity that the Permian Sea salt water could bring to the local economy

You will receive two grades for this project... an individual grade and group grade.

This paper is an individual grade.  More information about the group grade is back on the main page of this Web Quest site.
